Visit To Pazhassi Raja Tomb-Wayanad
Pazhassi Raja tomb is a memorial of Pazhassi Raja, one of the valiant freedom fighters in Kerala.He organized a guerilla type of warfare against the British in ancient days and was killed during the war with the British on 30th November 1805. His mortal remains have been buried here. He is known as the Veerakeralasimham or the Brave Lion of Kerala.There is also a museum nearby in memory of Pazhassi Raja.

Living atop a tree house is a unique experience. Tree house is known as ‘Erumadam’ in Malayalam. It is a house built on top of a tree. It was the abode of tribals to stay protected from wild beasts. Today, tree houses have become a part of wildlife tourism.Many of the resorts in Wayanad offer tree house facilities.Tree houses are built of eco friendly materials like bamboo, coir and hay. The tree houses have all the modern facilities available such as beds, bathrooms, kitchen, water, shower etc.There is also a balcony to sit and enjoy the surroundings.
Chembara peak is the highest peak in Wayanad and climbing it is a great feat. It is 6890 ft from sea-level .Vehicles are allowed only till the foothills near Meppady.The first leg of the trek is through tea plantations and after that the climb becomes steeper and tougher. The view is blurred with mist and the breeze in between washes away the mist but soon the mist reappears. The route is through the forest area. There is a lake quite near to the top which is the place where people usually take a break to wash up and picnic. The water in the lake is not suitable for drinking. The total trek takes about 5 to 6 hours and the top is a rocky area, giving a blissful view. You feel so near the clouds and the scenic beauty is so spellbinding that the tiredness of the trek vanishes.There is a forest office at Meppady from where trekking permits have to be taken. Trekking equipments and guides are available at the District Tourism Promotion Council at Meppady.
